🦡 Ktm 690 Oil Change Interval
Oil change frequency for KTM Duke 390 usually depends on various factors including riding conditions, climate, and type of oil used. According to the manual, the KTM 390 Duke has a relatively short service interval of 4650 miles or 7500 km.
From what I know KTM recommends 10w-60 if you live/drive regularly in ambient temps above 30 deg Celsius. It maintains lubrication at higher temps. 10w-50 provides poor lubrication at very high engine temps and wear out much faster. This is misleading and completely unsubstantiated advice. Bullshit! basically.
The recommended brand is Motorex 4T. However, any good quality fully synthetic oil from a major company will work. Silkolene, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Shell Rotella, Motul, Valvolene and others have been used successfully. Just be certain you have a 15W-50 fully synthetic oil. Recommended oil change interval is 7,500 km. Some owners change earlier, at
KTM 1190 Adventure Service Intervals. Like many KTM liquid-cooled V-twins, the KTM 1190 Adventure and Adventure R have 9300 mile / 15000 km service intervals, at which point KTM wants you to change the oil and oil filter and do a host of checks. The intervals are quite wide and it makes for a great long-distance adventurer.
My last oil and filter change was exactly one year ago. I am using Motul 300V 4T 15W-50 in this bike. I currently have only 1200 miles on this oil. I ride the bike at least 60-70 miles every time I take it out, so the oil always reaches the full operating temperature. Now, the owner's manual says to change the oil at least once a year.

User manual never says engine oil change every 5000kms. If you use normal engine oil then change every 150****700 kms. If you use synthetic engine oil then you can change engine oil every 3000
I found out today that when you take your 1290 in for the 600 mile break in service, the techs reset the service warning light. When they do this they set when the next reminder goes. So mine just went off at 4000 miles. They said even though KTM suggests service at 9500 miles, they think that's too long and recommend an oil change in between.
